Originating from Madagascar, Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant Tree, Flame Tree, delonix regia is the world's most colorful tropical tree. It is without doubt a magnificent tree and virtually everyone falls in love with it at first sight! For several weeks in spring and summer it is covered with bright fiery red/orange blossoms. Up close the individual flowers are absolutely striking. Even when not in bloom, with its graceful form and fernlike foliage, it is still one of the most beautiful trees in the world.
Royal Poinciana is very fast growing, about 5 feet per year until maturity at 30-40 feet, and tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. This tropical beauty is also well suited to pot culture, so even if you don't live in a tropical zone you can have fun growing this amazing plant. Surprisingly easy to grow from seed.

4 of the 10 seeds have started to grow. 1 died...I'm sad. However the other 3 are holding on. I am being meticulous with these tiny tree sprouts. Wish me luck...better yet wish them luck and tree blessings :)

Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are one of the oldest plant families on Earth. Although they thrive in the temperate rain forests of the Pacific Northwest, they can adapt to higher elevations and warmer and dryer climates, as well as colder areas. The secret is lots of water and sunshine, especially at this baby stage.
Redwoods have a genetic configuration with 6 sets of chromosomes that developed over thousands of years to allow the trees to grow in many diverse climate conditions and regions.
The common name for these trees is California Redwood or Coastal Redwood. They can live for 2,000 years or more in ideal conditions. This species includes the tallest trees on Earth, reaching up to 375 feet in height and 26 feet in diameter.
You are purchasing a baby redwood tree, actively growing in a 4-inch pot. These stand about 7 to 8 inches high measured from the bottom of the pot.
We think these can be grown outdoors successfully from zones 5 through 9 if proper care is given. We recommend growing these as pot plants for up to a year, gradually increasing the size of the pot. Plant in the ground in the spring of 2011. Be sure to allow for room to grow when selecting a location, and be sure to provide plenty of water in dry conditions. Or you can grow these as container plants by pruning them back if they threaten to get too big. These trees were tissue cultured from large redwoods that showed superior growth, shape, adaptation to varying climatic regions, limb structure, height and diameter. Young redwoods use sunlight so efficiently (3-4 times more than pines) that they can grow even in deep shade. The babies offered here can grow up to two feet in a year, if the conditions are right.

Plants arrived in a large box. They were packed well, roots stil moist and none of them seemed to be damaged. Planted them about two weeks ago with two cups of potting soil mixed in to native soil as the included instructions stated for this plant size. I've been watering periodically and so far so good. I will try to update this next spring to report how the summer and winter treated them, but from what I have seen and my limited knowledge of these trees, the product appears to be good.

Saplings received in decent packing condition with live roots. Many of the tiny plants had something that resembled white paint on them, but most of it has worn off since planting. All of the plants were very droopy upon receipt, and took a couple of months to strengthen and stand up straight. About a quarter of the plants had a sickly yellow shade upon receipt, but the rest looked healthy and green. After three months of regular watering and great weather, they are starting to "liven up" and all look healthy now. I definitely got what I paid for as it will take MANY years for these plants to provide any privacy or wind break. I definitely saved money, but will probably be too old to enjoy their benefits when they finally mature. lol ;o)
**NOTE: For best chances of survival, these plants need to be watered IMMEDIATELY upon receipt and planted quickly. You should fertilize with a good, slow-release fertilizer and place mulch around the base upon planting.
