Product Description
Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are one of the oldest plant families on Earth. Although they thrive in the temperate rain forests of the Pacific Northwest, they can adapt to higher elevations and warmer and dryer climates, as well as colder areas. The secret is lots of water and sunshine, especially at this baby stage. The common name for these trees is California Redwood. They can live for 2,000 years or more in ideal conditions. This species includes the tallest trees on Earth, reaching 375 feet in height and 26 feet in diameter.
You are purchasing a package of three baby redwood trees, right out of the grow tray. These plugs are 6 to 8 inches high or more, measured from the bottom of the plug to the top of the plant. Pot these in ordinary potting soil on arrival, in 4 inch pots.
You can regulate the speed of growth by varying the light -- the lower the light, the slower the growth. But do keep them moist, as redwoods like lots of water. We think these can be grown outdoors successfully from zones 5 through 9 if proper care is given.
We recommend growing these as pot plants for up to a year, gradually increasing the size of the pot. Plant in the ground in the spring of 2013. Or you can grow these as container plants by pruning them back if they threaten to get too big.
These trees were tissue cultured from large redwoods that showed superior growth, shape, adaptation to varying climatic regions, limb structure, height and diameter.
A mature tree is said to produce nearly 260 pounds of oxygen a year.
Redwood trees can grow very rapidly. Young trees develop a narrow conical silhouette -- the highest branches reaching upward, the lower ones drooping. This shape changes with age. Young redwoods use sunlight so efficiently (3-4 times more than pines) that they can grow even in deep shade. But with full sunlight and moist soil, the babies offered here can grow up to two feet in a year.

3 Fast Growing Baby California Redwood Tree Plugs Reviews
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Doing quite well indoors., By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: 3 Fast Growing Baby California Redwood Tree Plugs As the description says, these are "tissue cultured", aka cuttings. This means that while they are rooted, they will still think they are branches for a while instead of independent trees, so go easy on them. While the description recommends keeping them potted for up to a year, I would say its mandatory to keep them potted for that length of time. Tree cuttings take some time to re-orient themselves, develop a mature root system, and make the transition from branch to tree. In that time they are quite fragile. A good hard freeze or other stress could be too much for the little guys early on, so pot them up and leave them there for that year so they can establish themselves. Also, you should stake these soon after potting. Again, they will still think that they are branches trying to grow sideways, not trees trying to grow straight up, so the staking helps them figure out which way to go and helps prevent them from growing bent. That said, mine are doing quite well...
