Spending another $50 on a big plant seemed a bit steep, and this little guy is just the right size. It came lovingly packed in shredded newspaper with a heat pack, and after an overnight soak in a dish of water it perked up and is looking ready to transplant into a bigger pot. Bonus: it came with enough healthy leaves that if I wanted to make a curry tomorrow I wouldn't feel bad about pinching off a few. It was well packaged, but came in a one-inch diameter "plug-style" container 6-8 inches long, with only three leaves on it. This contrasts with the bay laurel I ordered at the same time from another vendor that had two dozen leaves, came in a 6 inch pot, and had a beautiful upright growth habit. This might be due to the grafted nature of this plant, I will report back in a couple of months on the final outcome. But the reviews that said there were enough leaves to use some right away were different from my experience.Update on 11/16. If you have space and sunshine and like Thai food, buy this plant! The leaves smell wonderful. |
