Product Description
Adansonia digitata is a tree of the African tropics. It is seldom more than 40 feet tall but has an enormously thick trunk which can be as much as 30 feet in diameter, making it almost as wide as it is high. The spongy tissue of the trunk holds water which enables the tree to withstand drought conditions. Baobab bark is used as a source of fiber for ropes and for paper-making. The tree has large white hanging flowers and fruits known as "monkey bread". Fruit pulp is used to make a lemonade-like drink. Makes a great house plant or patio plant!

13 of 13 people found the following review helpful Thank you for carrying the Strange and Unusual, This review is from: Baobob Tree 8 Seeds - Monkey Bread Tree - Adamsonia Very hardy seeds! :) No shipping protection! :(I only planted two of the seeds in ordinary potting soil (which came with "6 months" fertilizer already in it), and in about a week one of the seeds has stuck out a fat white shoot and started digging. You will not receive instructions, and unfortunately your seeds will not arrive with any protection from the cold or from crushing injury during shipment. HIRTS, please at least wrap the little guys in bubble wrap, the receipt does not protect from harm. I ordered the baobabs, phantom miracle tree, and eucalyptus. The baobabs made it fine because the seeds are big and hard, and the eucalyptus seeds are smaller than mustard seeds so they use quantum tunnelling to escape harm, but one of the phantom miracle seeds was crushed almost to dust. That's a sad sight to see because I think of them all as babies. All seeds arrived in tiny zip lock baggies wrapped in a folded receipt. Somebody please update if they... Ok, This is what i did with the seeds... i took 3 of them and with a wire peeler like this: [...] i made a small cut on each side of the seed to take out a part of the hard cover of the seed (its REALLY HARD!), be careful to not to damage the white part inside of the seed. I put the seeds in HOT TAP water (NO BOILING!) and let them rest for 12 hrs. Next day i took 3 small pots with regular black potting soil and peat moss (50/50) and planted the seeds 1 inch deep. In 3 days i got the big fat seedling comming out of all three seeds!. Today is the 5the day and the baobab shoots are growing REALLY fast, I'm probably going to use one to start learning how to make bonsais and the other two to transplant them to let them grow free at our summer house. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Sprouted in just a few days!, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Baobob Tree 8 Seeds - Monkey Bread Tree - Adamsonia When I recieved the seeds I made a small nick on the side using a hobby knife then soaked them in water over night. After that I moistened a papertowel with water, folded it up, and placed the seeds inside. I put that into a ziplock bag and in just three days most have sprouted! The others look like they may germinate soon, there is a crack where the roots came out of the others. |
